What is Infant Swim Resource (ISR)?
Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) are customized, research based, one-on-one lessons taught by certified Instructors, that teach children the necessary skills needed to be safe in the water. Your ISR Instructor will customize your child’s lesson experience to focus on the ISR skills that are developmentally appropriate for your child and your family’s aquatic activities. Desireé Choy
After over a decade in education as a teacher, coordinator, and administrator, I have swapped the walls of a classroom for water safety in the pool. While my environment may have changed, my goal remains the same, to empower confident, kind and independent problem solvers.
I watched my 10 month old daughter and 2 year old son complete the ISR swim course for 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week, for six weeks, and was amazed at the transformation and skills my kids developed to be able to save themselves in the water. They did hard work developing life saving skills while simultaneously developing trust in themselves and a love for the water.
The Floater
Infants and young toddlers will learn the ISR Self-Rescue skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest and breathe. They learn to maintain this position until help arrives.
The Swimmer
When a child is walking and developmentally ready, they will learn the full ISR Self-Rescue sequence in the water, Swim-Float-Swim. They will practice swimming until they need air, rolling onto their back to float, then flipping over to continue swimming.
ISR students are taught to repeat this sequence until they reach the safety of the steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline.
Maintenance
Students who are skilled in ISR have the opportunity to maintain their skills with confidence throughout the year with Maintenance & Refresher opportunities. This is a great opportunity for students to adjust their skills with their developing and growing bodies.
While Maintenance lessons are typically suggested 1-2x per month with Refreshers taking place every 6 months, parents should work with their instructor to determine a Maintenance + Refresher schedule that is right for their child.
